Have you heard the rumour about BT shutting down the old copper phone lines in 2025?

Well the good news is that OpenTAP is future proof, and works with any phone line connected to your home or business security alarm system or other monitoring equipment. So as long as you have a phone line connected to your alarm system or other monitoring system, everything will continue to work as normal, and you will still recieve your alert text messages.

What is the copper switch off?

BT are switching off the UK’s PSTN (old copper lines) and ISDN networks for good in 2025. This means that any phone or service that operates of the old analogue network will be switched off.

The BT copper switch off will affect thousands of homes and businesses, especially those unaware of BT’s intention to phase this out. Traditional PSTN phone lines are a legacy technology with high maintenance costs and many drawbacks.

In light of the BT PSTN Switch Off, on 5th September 2023 a STOP SELL was implemented making it impossible to order any new traditional PSTN services, or make any changes to existing services.  By 2025 it is a requirement to totally upgrade to IP phones (VoIP/SIP) to avoid interruption of your telephone services.
